Author/illustrator visits are a great way to build excitement for books!  During a visit I like to read one of mine and talk about how it was made and inspirations that lead me to become an author and illustrator. I like to encourage the kids to write and illustrate their own stories with examples  from other students their own age that I've met at past school visits. We finish up the visit with a draw along of Waffles the Cat.  The kids love this part and come home with their very own Waffles drawing.  All this happens in about 30 minutes but time can be adjusted for you school's schedule.
